Paul Hoskins appointed as the new conductor of erso

I am so pleased to have been invited to be the conductor of Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra, for many reasons. ERSO is one of the first orchestras that I ever heard as a child, at the Royal Festival Hall in the 1970s. I love the long history of the organisation, which dates back to the 1920s, because deep roots give any institution great strength. Good amateur orchestras today can be a fantastic asset to any community, and a source of great fun, for both the members and their friends and families. ERSO has the added bonus of a real sense of purpose, founded in the pioneering education work of Ernest Read. I see the educational remit in the widest possible sense, offering enjoyable opportunities for as many people as possible. Camden School for Girls is a great place for ERSO to be based, and I look forward to building on the links with CSG, with other schools and organisations, and local people.
Peter Stark will be a hard act to follow, but I look forward to the challenge, and am supported by some very hard-working volunteers. Together, we will build on all his work, and ensure a vigorous future for the orchestra. I plan to programme lots of varied repertoire, make Sunday afternoon rehearsals enjoyable and sociable; and all playing members, old and new, will be extremely welcome.
